OK- 8 things about myself.

8 things.... about myself.
Alright, that's just stupid. Let's do 8 things about God instead. Sorry guys, but God is just more interesting.

God is:

1- HOLY

God is HOLY! He cannot tolerate sin!
Holiness is the only attribute of God mentioned in triplicate. The Bible tells us that God is holy, holy, holy (Is 6:3, Rev 4:8). Think about that for a moment. If God says something about his character once, that's enough to settle it. When he says it twice, that's emphasis. But when he says it three times, that means it's of supreme importance. The Bible never says that God is love, love, love or mercy, mercy, mercy. But it does say that He is holy, holy, holy.


2- SOVEREIGN
"He is under no external restraint whatsoever. He is the Supreme Dispenser of all events. All forms of existence are within the scope of His dominion. And yet this is not to be viewed in any such way as to abridge the reality of the moral freedom of God’s responsible creatures or to make men anything else than the arbiters of their own eternal destinies.
God has seen fit to create beings with the power of choice between good and evil. He rules over them in justice and wisdom and grace." -New Unger's Bible Dictionary
God has the absolute right to do all things according to His own good pleasure. (He is GOD. Obviously.)

3- OMNIPOTENT
Omnipotence means God is all powerful and thus has unlimited authority & influence. He has the ability to do whatever His will dictates. Omnipotence, the unlimited extent of His Divine Power!

"Tremble, O earth, before the Lord, before the God of Jacob,"

4- JUST
God is JUST and absolutely fair. Unfortunately for us, 'absolutely fair' means we should be condemned to hell. BUT-

"If we had lain in hell forever, yet divine justice would not have been fully justified, for after thousands of years of suffering there would remain still an eternity of debt due to God’s justice. If God had annihilated all the sinners that ever lived, at one stroke, he would not have so honored his justice as he did when he took sin and laid it on his Son, and his Son bore divine wrath which was due to that sin. For now there has been rendered unto divine justice a full equivalent, a complete recompense for all the dishonor which it suffered." -Spurgeon

5- WRATHFUL

Wrath is what happens when holiness meets sin! Wrath is what happens when justice meets rebellion! Wrath is what happens when righteousness meets unrighteousness! Wrath is what happens when perfect good meets pure evil!

Wrath is "the personal manifestation of God’s holy, moral character in judgment against sin. Wrath is neither an impersonal process nor irrational and fitful like anger. It is in no way vindictive or malicious. It is holy indignation—God’s anger directed against sin. God’s wrath is an expression of His holy love. If God is not a God of wrath, His love is no more than frail, worthless sentimentality; the concept of mercy is meaningless; and the Cross was a cruel and unnecessary experience for His Son."

6- MERCY

"Mercy is when that which is deserved is withheld to the benefit of the object of the mercy. God has demonstrated this attribute in abundance with respect to mankind. We from nearly the beginning of our existence have deserved nothing but wrath; having sinned and fallen short of eternal life in glory, we can do nothing to commend ourselves to or defend ourselves before God. But thankfully, God has been so amazing in His mercy. Over and against merely having the mercy to allow us to live out our miserable lives without destroying us instantly, God has chosen us to greatness and glory by the hand of His Son. The believer finds himself in Christ and enjoys full well the fruits of God's mercy. "

7- TRUTH
God is the very DEFINITION of Truth!! There cannot be a greater truth, a greater REALITY, than God!!
Jesus proclaimed, “I am the truth” (Jn 14:6)
God is the ultimate Truth and reality!! Without Him, there is NOTHING.



8- INCOMPREHENSIBLE

We might 'know' God. But who can say they comprehend Him?

He is so far above us; exalted infinitely higher than us creatures. He is infinitely above our conception, thought, and language. God’s essence is hidden from us and beyond our ability to understand. We are finite, limited beings- the finite cannot fully grasp the infinite. God has given us the ability and information (the Bible) to know THAT He is, but not to totally know what He is.

"We are speaking of God. Is it any wonder that you do not comprehend? For if you comprehended Him He cannot be God. Let this be a pious confession of great ignorance rather than a rash profession of knowledge. To have a very slight knowledge of God is a great blessing. To comprehend Him is altogether impossible. " -Augustine









So yup. 8 things about God, who is infinitely more interesting than I- being a total depraved, sinful, and an altogether disgusting human being; absolutely deserving of wrath apart from the mercy of Jesus Christ.
